Voices from Northern Ontario | Alzheimer Society

Film series & integrated campaign

Our latest campaign for the Alzheimer Society,   funded with the help of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, was designed to increase awareness of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and their impact on individuals and communities across Ontario.

Highlighting the unique challenges faced by northern communities, HGC used verité and participatory storytelling, to take audiences on a truly intimate journey. We see family members pushing the boundaries of their knowledge, ability, love, and compassion to care for their loved ones. We meet caregivers on the front lines who are providing intimate care and putting themselves and their own families at risk to help the most vulnerable in our communities.

Deliverables: Research, strategic planning, documentary film framework to guide script writing, art direction, storyboarding, location scouting, shooting, editing, music selections, graphic overlays and editing; multi-tiered campaign; partner presentations; print/digital campaign development.

Voices from Northern Ontario

Directed by multiple award-winning documentary filmmaker Elisa Paloschi and funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Resilient Communities Fund, Voices from Northern Ontario is a powerful story that bears witness to the issues confronting families living with dementia. The film challenges us to push aside the stigma and get the conversation started with family members and friends who are impacted by the disease. And it reminds us that love is never really lost, even in the face of dementia.

Voices from Northern Ontario reminds us that no matter where we live in the world, the impact of dementia on families and communities is universal. Through the poignant narrative we learn that dementia doesn’t care how old you are or where you live. This is a disease that affects everyone in the family and the social, emotional, and financial toll is demonstrable and real.
